My little boy- Alfie! He is 13 years old and is just as energetic as a puppy. Miniature poodles, the 8th most popular dog breeds, are extremely active, proud, and intelligent. They make great family pets, especially because they do not shed and are hypoallergenic (perfect for people with allergies, like me!). They are generally 10-15 pounds, being a little bit larger than a toy poodle. Most have dark, oval shaped eyes, while some have hazel. Poodles range in colors from multi-colored to Apricot, Black, Blue, Brown, Cafe Au lait, Cream, Gray, Red, Silver, Silver beige and White (mine being black with a little white!).
Poodles enjoy keeping busy and active, especially with people. Poodles are very people-oriented and must be apart of their owners life to be happy. The best way to make sure your miniature poodle is happy and healthy is to check with your vet or breeder before determining the amount and type of food that is right for your pet. Alfie enjoys Blue Buffalo with roasted or grilled chicken or even sometimes steak (his favorite!).
This breed is known for high intelligence and does very well with house and command training. Even though they are small in size, they are great watch dogs. Miniature poodles, along with all poodles, are very alert and known to have a loud, high pitch bark (trust me, I know from experience). The miniature poodle is known to have health issues such as Epilepsy, hypothyroidsim, hip dsyplasia, Sebaceous Adenitis, luxating patella, Legg-Calve Perthes, von Willebrand’s disease and PRA. But luckily, Alfie has been healthy and we have had no problems! The only minor issue we have had was kidney stones but they were removed and he is a healthy, happy dog who is active and loving life!
